Bank Holiday Monday saw Stotfold lose for the first time in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central.
It’s been a rapid rise for the Bedfordshire-based club who were Spartan South Midlands League Division One Champions in 2021/22 and followed it up by winning a second successive promotion at the end of last term as they finished runners-up in the Premier Division.
After two wins and a draw from their opening three League games, Monday’s home clash with Biggleswade Town proved a game too far as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.
“We gave a good account of ourselves overall,” said manager, Brett Donnelly. “We did well in the first half and then started the second half strongly as well but the red card has killed us.
“We more than matched our opponents for large periods; I am disappointed to lose, of course, but not disappointed with the performance.
“This club has come a long way in a short space of time and we want to be up there amongst clubs like Biggleswade Town.”
