There was a classic local derby at the Your Co-op Community Stadium on Monday afternoon as Leamington and Stratford Town played out a full-blooded 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of approaching 1,000.
The visitors took a first half lead through Riley O’Sullivan but then had Charlie Dowd sent off as Jack Edwards levelled matters for the home side.
“It was a bit of a throwback,” admitted long-serving Brakes’ boss, Paul Holleran. "It was certainly an exciting game; end-to-end at times and stretched at times too.
“It had everything you would expect a local derby to have as two committed sides battled it out.
“We had enough opportunities to have won the game, but not for the first time this season we were unable to take them and in the end a draw was probably a fair result.
“Four points from our two Bank Holiday fixtures was a good return. We’re confident that we can grow and get better in this League.
“The reality is that teams will look forward to playing us having come down from a number of years at a higher level. We have to be able to deal with that.”
There’s a local flavour to Leamington’s Emirates FA Cup first round qualifying tie on Saturday as they host Coleshill Town whilst Stratford Town are also at home as they welcome Spalding United.
