Sholing support for England hopeful

Byron and Dan Mason will be hoping that Saturday will be an extra special day for them and their family.

The duo will start the day focussed on seeing their Sholing side, where Bryon is an experienced midfielder and Dan is striker, secure three points in their Pitching In Southern League Premier South encounter at Harrow Borough before attention turns to nephew, Levi Colwill, who is hoping to make his England debut.

The highly-rated Chelsea defender has been rewarded for his outstanding progress with a first call-up into the England squad for the forthcoming games against Ukraine on Saturday and Scotland on Tuesday having helped the Under-21s win the European Championships over the summer.

Colwill was cheering Sholing on in May when they secured promotion from Division One South via the play-offs and, with uncles Byron and Dan Mason in the team as well as close family friend, Marvin McLean, he is delighted to see how well The Boatmen have adapted to life at the higher level with three wins from their opening six League games.

“Sholing has been a massive family affair,” Dan told PA. “Me and my brothers have been here pretty much our whole lives – all of us have got 500-plus appearances each!

“When the fixtures come out, we all look and see what games Levi can come to of ours and what games we can go to of his. It’s a massive support thing, in our group chat we’re always pushing each other for the win and then as soon as the games are finished, we break down games in there.”

Club commitments mean that the Masons will be unable to travel to England’s forthcoming games but they will be watching on avidly and hoping that they will be able to discuss their own performances as well as that of Levi in the group chat on Saturday night.
