Melksham Town manager, Mark Collier, as apologised to supporters in the wake of their 3-0 Isuzu FA Trophy defeat at the hands of Hamworthy United.
The Town have started the season well in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South with three wins and a draw from their opening four games, but it’s in the Cup competitions where they have struggled.
“Our Cup performances have not matched those of the League, which is obviously very disappointing,” said Collier. “The focus is now solely on our League position; there will be bumps along the way but we have given ourselves a platform on which to build in the League.
“Like all losses, this one was very difficult to take. Of course, as manager, I take full responsibility.
“It was my decision to set up differently and play a new system. I took negatives and positives from the game and will use both when planning for Saturday’s home League game against Malvern Town.
“The backing of our fans is much appreciated and will be a huge part going forward.”
Last month, Melksham exited the Emirates FA Cup with a heavy 5-1 reverse at AFC Stoneham.
