WINCHESTER CITY | DAVIS REFLECTS ON 'HORRIBLE GAME'

Another tough test awaits in Tuesday's Emirates FA Cup replay

A home tie against Vanarama National League South outfit, Maidstone United, is the prize on offer for Winchester City if they can overcome Reading City in their Emirates FA Cup second round qualifying replay on Tuesday evening.

Having been held to a 1-1 away draw on Saturday, manager, Craig Davis, knows that improvements are going to be needed as they welcome the Combined Counties League Premier Division North side to the Charters Community Stadium.

“We were comfortable in the first half and should have been further ahead,” said Davis, who was sent from the dug-out as emotions got the better of him. “I said to the lads at half-time that they could make the game as easy or as difficult as they wanted to make it and unfortunately for us it was the latter.

“They were able to get back in it with an equaliser as we lost the control of the game which we had in the first half. Fair play to our opponents because they went into it with a game plan and played to their strengths; they did what they had to do against a side from two levels above, but we allowed them to get in too many times.

“In fairness it was a horrible game, truly horrible. We should have been good enough to put the tie to bed but we were unable to do so and there will be changes on Tuesday as we look to find a way of getting through.

“It’s up to the lads to get the job done. There’s a nice home draw awaiting the winners, but before we can even think about that we have to focus on what will be another tough test for us on Tuesday.”
