MERTHYR TOWN | CUP OF CHEER FOR MICHAEL

Martyrs manager bursting with pride

There were a number of fine achievements by Pitching In Southern League clubs in Tuesday evening’s Emirates FA Cup second round qualifying replays.

One such saw Premier Division South high-flyers. Merthyr Town, head to a Taunton Town outfit who have a 100% home record in the Vanarama National League South so far this season and beat them 2-1.

“I am very proud of my players,” said manager, Paul Michael. “They had the quality when we needed it; it was a fantastic all-round team performance to deservedly take us through.

“We had real control of the game in the first half and then looked dangerous going forward at the start of the second half. We then put our bodies on the line when we needed to towards the end to see us through.

“To come and win at a team in the top five of the League above and with the home record they have, just shows what we are capable of.

“I also felt that our supporters were superb and really set the tone for the team.

“Now our focus turns to a huge game on Saturday as the battle for League points resumes before we can even think about Sheppey United and the next round of the FA Cup.”

The Martyrs host Gosport Borough on Saturday in what is sure to attract another large crowd to Penydarren Park.
