The new man at the Bashley helm is hoping that a number of positive training sessions with the team can be transferred into a good run of autumn form.
Ollie Cherrett recently replaced Matt Tubbs in the hot-seat of the Pitching In Southern League Division one South club.
“There’s always going to be that period of the players getting used to us as a coaching staff and us getting used to them,” Cherrett admitted to @Sarahlousport. “We’ve had some good training sessions where we’ve been able to learn a lot and get to start building relationships.
“We’ve got a competitive squad here; we’re hopefully of having a few of the injured lads available again, whilst Tuesday’s Hampshire Senior Cup tie allowed me to run the rule over some of the younger lads that are waiting in the wings.
“I was impressed with the way in which they acquitted themselves, so there is plenty to be positive about.
“It’s still very much early days in the season. I’ll be taking it in small chunks and not look too far ahead.
“I’m ambitious and the club is ambitious, that’s why I wanted to come here, so we’ll see how things progress.
“We’ve got a big game in the Isuzu FA Trophy coming up on Saturday and then our first League game on the following Tuesday, so we’re looking forward to getting into action.”
Saturday sees Bashley head to League rivals, Cribbs, in the second round qualifying of the Isuzu FA Trophy before they host Willand Rovers in the League on Tuesday evening.
