Gosport Borough moved to the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table following an excellent 4-1 win at Merthyr Town on Saturday.
The Hampshire outfit recovered from going a goal down early on to take all three points as they capitalised upon their hosts going down to ten men following Aneurin Livermore’s red card.
“It was a really difficult game, as we knew it would be,” co-manager, Joe Lea told his club’s website. “We started slowly but grew into it as the time went on.
“We had a little bit of a wobble for a spell, but the red card came at a good time for us; scoring so soon afterwards really settled us down and our second half performance was excellent.
“It’s not always easy playing with an extra player, but we maintained control of the game and were ruthless in that second half.
“We’ve started a difficult run of fixtures where we need to take things game-by-game and hopefully we can maintain our positive form.”
The Boro return to home action on Wednesday evening with the visit of an AFC Totton side who are in and around the early leading pack.
