It’s going to be a busy – and exhausting – weekend for Yate Town Chairman, Mark Thorne.
On Saturday he will watch his improving side lock horns with the so far unbeaten Mousehole in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South and then on Sunday he has the small matter of walking a marathon around the South West Interiors Stadium pitch!
He is doing the walk to raise funds for the Great Western Air Ambulance and Bluebells Budget Booster.
“The club has joined forces with the Great Western Air Ambulance as our Charity Partner for next year and what better way to kick off the partnership than by doing some fund-raising on their behalf,” said Thorne. “The money raised from my marathon walk is going to be split 50-50 between this amazing charity and our own playing budget booster, two great causes.”
Philippa Walker, Supporter Engagement Coordinator at GWAAC, said “This partnership with Yate Town FC is a wonderful opportunity to help raise critical funds to keep us flying whilst raising awareness of the lifesaving work we do in our region.
“Our critical care crew attended Yate 15 times already in 2023 and were called a total of 29 incidents in 2022. We never know where we’ll be called to next but with the generous support of Yate Town FC and our shared community, we can get there to help the people of Bristol and beyond in need of lifesaving care.
“We are so grateful to Mark and everyone at the club and look forward to some enjoyable fundraising events over the next few months!”
With each mission costing an average of £2,000 and with £4 million annual running costs, GWAAC is funded almost entirely by charitable donations.
Fund-raising such as this helps cover costs incurred on a daily basis such as medical equipment, fuel costs, clinical crews, premises costs and other running and support costs.
