The unusually high October temperatures added an extra challenge to Sunday’s Bournemouth Half Marathon, but Bashley midfielder, Luke Delaney, completed the 13.1-mile course in one hour and 45 minutes.
In the process, the 26 year-old raised over £1,000 for the British Liver Trust, in memory of his beloved dad, who passed away at the end of last year.
“My dad was everything to me,” said Delaney. “He was my biggest role model, my right-hand man and my best mate.
“Unfortunately, he lost his life to liver disease in 2022 and I want raise vital funds to help the British Liver Trust fight this disease across the UK.
“If I can help another family save a loved one, I will. I know that my dad will be looking down on me with a smile on his face, knowing that I am making him proud.
“The Half Marathon was mentally and physically challenging. My dad was there with me all the way, driving me on and I am so pleased to have raised over £1,000 for such a worthy cause.
“I am so grateful and thankful to everyone who made a donation.”
