Evesham United won their first Pitching In Southern League Division One South game of the season at the eighth time of asking on Saturday as two goals in quick succession within the final ten minutes saw them beat Bashley 2-0.
After reaching the play-offs with a fourth-place finish last term, things have not gone to plan for manager, Mike Ford, and his team so far, but they are hoping that this result will give them the kick-start they were looking for.
“It was a deserved victory,” said Ford at the end of the game. “We were very good, especially in the first half where we played some good stuff but didn’t test their ‘keeper as much as I would have liked us to.
“The main thing was that we played like a team, full of confidence and on the front-foot from the off. We gradually wore them down and even though the second half was more even, we remained the better team.
“Getting the second goal straight after we opened the scoring was fantastic and I felt that the players were exceptional in the way that they approached the game.
“Now we have to be able to build on this on Tuesday evening when we return to home action against Bristol Manor Farm.”
