Kings Langley celebrated their partnership with Her Game Too at Saturday’s Pitching In Southern League Division One Central encounter with Leighton Town.
As part of the celebrations, the club offered free entry to all females and there were also various free activities taking place for youngsters.
In the build-up to the game, all three of the club’s Girls’ team competed in the Hertfordshire Girls Partnership Football League before local coaching company, JP Pro, delivered a free open training session, which was attended by 38 girls, many of whom had never played the game before.
The 90-minute session was broken up by a visit from a very special guest; Watford and Wales legend, Helen Ward, who took part in a Q&A session. Helen spoke about the start of career, her toughest opponents and most famous team-mates.
Then it was time for the U11 and U13 girls’ teams to lead out the team as mascots before settling down to watch the action unfold.
“Whilst the result for the first-team wasn't ideal, the club were absolutely delighted that 135 female supporters took advantage of the free tickets on offer, which equated for just under half the total attendance on the day,” said a club spokesperson. “During the event, a local coach expressed an interest in setting up another girls’ team at the club and as a result the club is now taking expressions of interest for a possible U10s team, which is great news.”
