With two Pitching In Southern League Division One Central Club of the Month awards under their belts already this season from August and September, Bedford Town were able to extend their lead at the top of the table on Saturday thanks to a 2-1 win at Thame United.
The victory made it eight League games unbeaten for Lee Bircham’s side ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Waltham Abbey.
“Seven wins and a draw from our opening eight League games is an unbelievable return,” said Bircham. “It’s even better when you consider that we’ve had players missing for various reasons throughout this time.
“There is definitely a lot more to come from us, but credit to the lads because they’ve started the season extremely well.
“On Saturday we started the game well, as we have done a lot in recent games, things got a bit nervy towards the end when they didn’t need to, but the main thing was to extend our unbeaten League run and get back into winning ways following a draw and an FA Trophy defeat in our previous two outings.
“It was all about the three points and with other teams slipping up around us, it was a big win. Thame stayed in the game, but we did what we had to do to get the victory and now we will look to add to it at Waltham Abbey on Tuesday evening.
“They will be lively opponents; every game is a fight in this League so we just have to get on with it.”
