Their 100% record in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central may have come to an end on Tuesday evening, but Mickleover’s 1-1 draw at Bromsgrove Sporting means that they are now 12 League games unbeaten.
It’s a proud record for the Derbyshire club who were presented with the PST Sport Team of the Month award for September by Dave Stephens on behalf of the League on Tuesday – their second such award of the season after also taking the prize for August.
“I had to pinch myself when I was handed the trophy,” admitted Sports’ Chairman, Don Amott. “That’s two months on the trot we have taken the award and it’s a fantastic achievement for which manager, John McGrath, his coaching staff and the players can be really proud.
“This award is also for the supporters who turn out each week to cheer on the lads in their quest to create records.
“It’s been an unbelievable start to the season, the only disappointment being our Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Stourbridge. I love the FA Cup, it’s not just the financial rewards that it brings to clubs like ours, it’s also the prestige and the chance to take on a Football League club.
“We’re still involved in the Isuzu FA Trophy, with an away tie at Worksop Town on October 28th, so I can still dream of a Cup run!”
Before Mickleover can focus on that FA Trophy tie, they have important League business to attend to on Saturday as they head to Kettering Town.
