There’s a new man at the helm of Pitching In Southern League Premier South outfit, Tiverton Town, after Leigh Robinson, was handed the managerial reins.
“I’m under no illusions about the size of the task ahead,” he admitted. “Obviously there has been a lot of change at the club off the pitch, which creates its own challenges, and the new Executive Committee have been very clear that the club perhaps isn’t financially in the position they want it to be.
“However, I’ve taken on this challenge as I have every faith that the new Committee and the personnel involved will get it right off the pitch, which will, in turn, give me the chance to produce a team that they and the fans can be proud of. Unquestionably, on and off the pitch, this will take time and it’s been made clear to me that this is a long-term project.”
Robinson also had words of praise for the previous incumbent, Martyn Rogers.
“Martyn did incredible work at the club over many years,” he added. “He was a great help to me in my early years as a manager and we went head-to-head for a few years.
“I always hugely admired and respected his work. If I can have half the success here as he had, we’ll be in for a great ride.”
Tiverton Chairman, Michael Dunford, is excited by the appointment of Robinson, whose managerial experience includes spells in charge of the likes of Taunton Town, Truro City and Dorchester Town.
“Leigh was the outstanding candidate in a quality field of applicants and the committee were unanimous in deciding on his appointment,” he said. “We are delighted that he has accepted our invitation to join the club as it embarks on an exciting new era.”
The Devon outfit find themselves three places off the bottom of the Premier South table with two wins from their 13 League games so far.
