Wimborne Town were made to work hard for their 1-0 victory over Yate Town, but it was a win that took them to the top of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table.
“It was a tough game in extremely difficult conditions,” admitted defender, Billy Walker. “I felt that we played the conditions well and restricted our opponents to very few chances.
“Both teams tried to play some football and it was an entertaining game for the fans. As a defender I am most pleased about the clean sheet and three points.
“I just try to kick it and head it away and I felt that I did that to help the team get the win and move to the top of the table.
“Nothing is won at this stage of the season, of course, so hopefully we can build on this and remain in this position when it matters at the end of the season.”
There’s a mouth-watering game on Saturday as the Magpies travel to fellow high-flyers, Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
