Didcot Town manager, Jamie Heapy, will be co-hosting a mental health event at his club’s Loop Meadow Stadium on Friday, November 10th.
The event is titled Being A Mindful Mate and it will cover practical tips on how to talk to mates when worried, have good conversations, what it means to listen well and how to recognise signs and symptoms of mental ill health.
It is being delivered in association with Restore, who are an Oxfordshire mental health charity, one of the longest-established in the country having been founded in 1977, that supports people to take control of their recovery, develop skills, and lead meaningful lives.
The session will be delivered by Kate Brooks, who is a Senior Coach at Restore, and co-hosted by Heapy and long-time supporter, local FA staff member and founder of Cap ‘N’ Chino coffee resellers, Hans Cook.
It takes place during Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month at the Loop Meadow Stadium, Bowmont Water, Didcot OX11 7GA, 7pm until 8pm, on Friday November 10th and is free to attend.
“Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 years old,” said Heapy. “Societal expectations can discourage men from seeking help and expressing emotions. By challenging these stereotypes, we can encourage an environment where men feel safe, supported and empowered to prioritise their mental health.
“Rest assured, the evening will not be downbeat! This is an opportunity to learn some important facts and take home helpful advice… there will even be refreshments provided!”
Didcot Town make the trip to Plymouth Parkway on Saturday as they look to start climbing the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table.
