Poole Town are extremely proud of their Ability Counts team. It has been a success story of their community offering and now, thanks to additional funding via the Trident Grant Funding Scheme, it will be able to continue to go from strength-to-strength.
The team is run in association with Headway Dorset, as part of their Inclusion Hub.
Kevin Tipper, who has been with the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club since 2015, runs the team, which consists of players with all manner of impairments and health conditions as part of their pan-disability football provision.
Headway Dorset is a brain injury focused charity who work hard to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provide information, support and services to survivors, their families and carers.
The team is focused on a walking football format, meaning that it is an easier entry route for all to enjoy, with a more relaxed atmosphere combined with the competitiveness of the game. This is ideal not only for brain injured players, but for all forms of disability.
As with all aspects of football, this element provides a fantastic opportunity for the players to exercise, learn and play football, as well as make new friends and enjoy the social aspect of the game.
The club is always on the look-out for players or volunteer coaches who would like to get involved and help the Ability Counts team continue their progress.
Meanwhile The Dolphins' game against Beaconsfield Town this weekend has been reversed to an away fixture due to the fact that Beaconsfield have a 3G surface and the recent wet weather has left Poole's playing surface waterlogged.
