Andy Mutter completed marathon 48 of 52 in fine style during the half-time interval of Dorchester Town’s Pitching In Southern League Premier South clash with Basingstoke Town on Saturday.
The ultra-marathon runner turned 50 on New Year’s Eve last year and set himself the challenge of running 52 marathons over the course of the year ahead to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, a charity close to his heart.
His 48th marathon involved kicking a football for 26.2 miles and finishing at The Avenue Stadium, home of his local club.
“Some of the marathons are proper events and some are much longer than marathon distance,” he said. “For example, Marathon 37 was 228 miles long!
“Many are my own creations, which usually means they are a little on the silly side. I also try to make them as inclusive as possible to others.
“So far this year I have ran marathons dressed as King Arthur (banging coconuts together Monty Python style), Elvis, Spiderman and Mr. Blobby. I have also done a marathon in lederhosen and another dressed as a strawberry.
“It's been a really fun year, though maybe not so fun for my poor old legs! It was nice to be able to get my local football club involved in my latest Marathon, which was number 48.
“I have to say that kicking a ball for that long and going across some of the terrain made it one of the toughest I have done, but I really enjoyed it and to finish the Marathon during the half-time interval made it extra special!”
The day was topped off as Dorchester won the game 4-1 to continue their climb up the League table. They are back at home against Bracknell Town on Tuesday evening.
We congratulate Andy on his fantastic efforts. You can find out more about his 52 In 52 Challenge and donate here >>> DONATE
