Melksham Town manager, Mark Collier, is confident that his football principals will lead to his side challenging at the right end of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table, although he accepts that it will be a learning process for his young team.
With an average age of just 21, Town went down to a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Cribbs last weekend, a result that leaves them in the middle of the table with 14 points from ten League games.
“We’re a growing club,” said Collier. “We’re trying to do the right things on and off-the-pitch and part of that is having the philosophy of getting the ball down and playing.
“This is a young team and we know that it won’t always bring us results, as was the case in our last game, but I am confident that if we stick to our beliefs, we have the ability here to be challenging at the right end of the table.
“As a manager, I know that I’m judged on results and against Cribbs we just didn’t cope with their way of playing.
“We had a bit more life about us in the second half; we played with more desire and application but mentally we weren’t strong enough and it’s something for us to learn from and think about going into Saturday’s game.”
This weekend sees Melksham Town head to third-placed Willand Rovers.
