Chesham United returned to winning ways at the weekend as they bounced back from two straight defeats in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South to overcome the challenge of fellow high-flyers, Gosport Borough.
Their 2-0 triumph saw Ricardo German back on the scoring trail with a well-taken brace.
“It was very important that we got the three points, particularly against such a top side as Gosport Borough,” German told us. “We’ve had a couple of bad results recently, but we always felt that it was only a matter of time before we got back into winning ways, you don't become a bad side overnight.
“It was a great feeling to do it in front of our own fans and against one of our rivals in amongst the leading pack.
“To be able to score both goals was an added bonus; I am really pleased with how the season has started for me personally. The lads and management have been class and there is a real determination amongst us all to be able to push on.
“It’s a very tight and competitive League again this season; there’s not much between the top ten and every one of those teams will feel that they have a great chance of promotion come the end of the season.
“It’ll certainly make for an interesting battle between now and then!
“In terms of my goals tally, I’m happy with where I’m at right now; if we want to achieve our objective of promotion then I know I will have to get 30-40 goals, that is my aim.
“The hat-trick at Merthyr Town stands out from my goals so far. Both teams were unbeaten at the time and they’re obviously one of the fancied teams, so to go to Wales and leave with three points, a clean sheet and a convincing win really sent out a message that we meant business and showed exactly what we are capable of.”
It’s back-to-back home games coming up this week for the Generals as they host Sholing on Tuesday before taking on Basingstoke Town on Saturday as they look to strengthen their position within the front-runners.
