Malvern Town followed up their first home win of the season in their previous outing by securing a commanding 6-0 victory over Bashley at the weekend.
It was a result that moved them up into the middle of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table as they start to come to terms with life at the higher level following their promotion at the end of last term.
“Whether it’s a scrappy 1-0 win or an emphatic victory like Saturday, you have to enjoy and savour every win and every point at this level because they are so hard-earned,” said co-manager, Lee Hooper, after seeing his side chalk up their biggest-ever Southern League triumph in a game which saw them five goals to the good by half-time. “The lads deserved their beer after the game; it was a convincing performance from start to finish with everyone, from 1 to 16, playing their part.
“It’s been a learning curve for us all since the start of the season, but there is belief amongst the group now that we belong at this level.
“We were very positive in our play on Saturday and as much as it was nice to see us score six goals, we also saw out the important parts of the game.
“Going in five goals up at the break, it would have been easy for us to switch off and become sloppy, but we have seen what can happen if we do that at this level and, credit to the lads, they kept at it to see the game out and keep a clean sheet.
“It’s all about building momentum; that’s ten points from our last five games, which is good form and thoroughly deserved.
“The lads have looked sharp in training recently and we have taken it out onto the pitch. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re going to win every game, but we are gaining belief and learning with each game, which is standing us in good stead.”
The Hillsiders are now up to 11th in the table and face another home game at the weekend as Mousehole make the long trip up to the HDANYWHERE Community Stadium.
