Planning permission granted for stadium redevelopment

There is a buzz around Winchester City after the news last week that planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of their Charters Community Stadium home, which will see a new, modern 3G surface installed alongside improved stadia facilities.

With the fan base of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club continuing to grow and attendances on the rise, this new infrastructure will be vital for the future of the club and put it on a sound financial footing for generations to come.

“It has taken a lot of hard work from a dedicated group of people to get to this stage,” Club Secretary, John McLaren, told us. “A special mention to Winchester City Council for fully supporting us with this project.”

The project has been three years in the making, with McLaren at the very heart of it.

As well as the obvious benefits for the first team, the new facility will also become home to the 500 youngsters from the 35 junior and youth teams that are affiliated to the club, from Under-6 level right up to the Under-23s.

“I am delighted that approval has been given,” added first team manager, Craig Davis. “It’s been a long time in the making and I am so proud of all of the people who have worked so hard to get to this point.

“For us to have the chance to have facilities that will enable us to continue the good success we have had over the last few years is fantastic and I am excited for what lies ahead for the club.”

City find themselves in the middle of the table having won six of their opening 14 League games. They are back in home action on Saturday with the visit of Hendon.
