FROME TOWN | A DAY TO REMEMBER

There's a feel-good factor at Frome Town

The Isuzu FA Trophy exploits of Frome Town are doing us proud as the Pitching In Southern League Division One South side overcame the challenge of Step 2 Worthing at the weekend to secure their place in the third round where a home tie with Torquay United awaits.

What made the achievement even greater is that they conceded a stoppage time equaliser to draw 2-2 yet still managed to find the necessary resolve to win the penalty shoot-out that followed.

“It was a proper Cup tie and a real roller-coaster of emotions,” said manager, Danny Greaves. “I am so proud of everyone involved, it’s such a proud moment.

“Surprisingly, I stayed really calm, even after they equalised right at the end and throughout penalties.

“From the moment I woke up that morning, I genuinely felt that it was going to be our day; even though we had just conceded, I was confident going into the shoot-out and it was just a matter of me getting the boys to believe and concentrate on their technique.

“I knew that if they did their job and put the ball away, our ‘keeper would save at least one for us and so it proved, although I didn’t expect him to save three of them!

“Everyone came out of the day with enormous credit; we had to run a lot, defend resolutely as a team and suffer a bit against ambitious opponents from two levels above, but we did that to get our reward.

“We worked our socks off out there and it breeds confidence that we can take into League matches and, of course, the next round in a few weeks’ time. It also brings in extra finance to the club and a feel-good factor around the place.

“Hopefully we can take this momentum into Friday’s game at Bishops Cleeve as we look to continue our good form in the League.

“Our heart, desire and work-rate has been superior to that of our opponents in recent weeks and that comes from within. It has seen us climb to second in the table and now I want to see us build on this.

“The task now is to keep the boys level-headed. You have to enjoy occasions like Saturday because they don’t come around all that often and we did that over the weekend, but now the focus is fully on our latest challenge on Friday evening and securing more vital League points.

“The tie against Torquay United is something to look forward to, but it will be kept on the back-burner for now as far as we are concerned.”

We congratulate Frome Town and indeed all of our Member Clubs who made it through to the third round, which takes place on Saturday, December 9th.
