MOUSEHOLE AFC | LET THERE BE LIGHT

New lights in the sky over West Cornwall

Every year thousands of visitors flock to Mousehole to see the annual harbour lights display, a local tradition dates back 60 years.

There will be some new lights in the sky over the West Cornwall village this year after new LED floodlights were installed at Trungle Parc, home of Pitching In Southern League Division One South new boys, Mousehole AFC.

Aided by a grant from the Football Foundation, it is the latest development at the progressive club who are enjoying their first-ever season at Step 4.

They began the season brightly and whilst recent results haven’t gone their way with four successive League defeats, there is plenty of positivity and optimism around the club as they face each new challenge head-on.

One forthcoming game that they are particularly looking forward to is the home clash with Westbury United on Saturday, December 23rd.

That date is a special one for the village of Mousehole as they celebrate Tom Bawcock’s Eve.

The annual festival is held in celebration and memorial of the efforts of legendary Mousehole resident, Tom Bawcock, to lift a famine from the village by going out to fish in a severe storm.

During this festival, Stargazy pie (a mixed fish, egg and potato pie with protruding fish heads) is eaten and there’s a lantern procession as well as a good deal of celebrating in the local pubs.

The football club will also be staging events to mark the day at their home game.
