MALVERN TOWN | 90 MINUTES TO SAVE A LIFE

Hillsiders team up with Heartstart Malvern to provide life-saving training

Pitching In Southern League Division One South outfit, Malvern Town, have teamed up with Heartstart Malvern in a new collaboration to help increase the number of local people trained in simple life-saving skills, including the use of a defibrillator.

The club is opening its doors at the HDANYWHERE Community Stadium to encourage as many people as possible to come forward for the free Heartstart Malvern training.

During the 90-minute training session, participants will be able to learn some very simple practical lifesaving skills, including how to do Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use a defibrillator. No previous first aid experience is required.

The Hillsiders’ Chair, Chris Pinder (pictured), said: “As a club we can see how important it is to support community initiatives such as Heartstart Malvern.

“In recent years there have been several professional footballers, including Christian Eriksen, Fabrice Muamba and Glenn Hoddle, who have all suffered a cardiac arrest but have survived thanks to someone starting CPR and then defibrillating them shortly after they collapsed.

“The skills which saved these footballers are so easy to learn and as a club we are really pleased to be playing our part in trying to encourage as many people as possible to come forward for training.

“As well as encouraging our own players, staff and supporters, members of the local community not connected with the club are more than welcome to attend the Heartstart Malvern training here. This could be the most important training session that anyone could attend.”

Dr. Philip Earl, Club Doctor and Director of Football at the Worcestershire club, added: “Before moving to Malvern, I was on the Board at another football club in Warwickshire. During a Walking Football match one evening a participant collapsed with a cardiac arrest. Some spectators came to the persons’ aid and started CPR immediately and used a defibrillator to help save the persons’ life. This person went on to make a full recovery. I would encourage everyone to learn these life-saving skills.”

“Heartstart Malvern is extremely grateful to Malvern Town FC for allowing us to use their facilities and to become one of the first clubs to sign up to our new ’90 Minutes to Save a Life’ initiative,” said Richard Vakis-Lowe, Chairman of Heartstart Malvern.

The first training session at the club takes place this Tuesday, December 5th, at 7pm. Other dates are being arranged for January and February.

On the pitch, Malvern Town have won their last three games in a row to move into the top half of the table. They play host to Willand Rovers on Saturday in what is sure to be a good test for both clubs.
