FROME TOWN | FRIENDS UNITED

Big day at Badgers Hill on Saturday

Having been forced to sit out the last game through injury, Frome Town skipper, Sam Teale, is hoping to be back to lead the side into arguably their biggest-ever home game on Saturday as they host Torquay United in the third round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.

Teale has formed a solid central defensive unit so far this season alongside his best mate, Pierce Mitchell, which sees the club with the second-best defensive record in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

“The way we sometimes speak to each other on the pitch, you wouldn’t think we were best mates,” said Teale with a wry smile. “The reason why we’ve struck up such a good connection on the pitch is because of our friendship off it.

“We demand a lot from each other and if either of us makes a mistake, we’ll let each other know about it, but it’s all done in the right spirit and it helps to get the best out of each other.

“Saturday’s game is going to be a massive test for us, but our home form is something that we pride ourselves on and we fancy ourselves against anyone here.

“This is a challenge that we’re all looking forward to. The supporters also have a big role to play; their backing goes a long way and gives us that extra boost we need, as it did in the previous round against Worthing.”

That game against Worthing, who like Torquay United are members of the Vanarama National League South, went all the way to a penalty shoot-out as they won their fifth tie in this competition already this season.

There were 597 packed into Badgers Hill for that game and there will be even more in attendance on Saturday as Danny Greaves’ side look to continue their impressive campaign which also sees them sit third in the table with just two defeats from 12 League games.
