There was joy for Long Eaton United at the weekend as they secured their first home win of the season and only their second of the campaign in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central as they beat Berkhamsted 1-0.
A second minute strike from James Spruce proved to be the difference as goalkeeper, Ross Durrant, also saved a penalty to help his side complete the double over their opponents this term and move to within three points with a game in hand over them.
“We are delighted to get our first home win and keep a clean sheet,” manager, Brad Munn, told his club’s media at the end. “But that was one of our worst performances of the season. We took our chance and held on to the lead, it was as simple as that.
“It’s been a tough season, so it’s nice to be able to win ugly. Maybe we didn’t deserve the three points on this occasion, but there have been plenty of games this season where we’ve deserved something and not got it, so it was about time that our luck started to change.
“There’s a feeling of relief, I am so happy for the players and the supporters, but we won’t get carried away. We’ll take the positives and feel-goods from the win into our upcoming games and hopefully build on them.
“We’ve showed plenty of resilience and determination out there, which is nice to see.”
Long Eaton United's next League action sees them hit the road for Royston Town at the weekend.
