DORCHESTER TOWN | WHERE THERE'S A WILL

Smooth transition for front-man

It’s been a positive start to life at Dorchester Town for Will Fletcher as his first two starts for the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club have yielded three goals, including a match-winning brace at Swindon Supermarine at the weekend.

The 22 year-old has renewed acquaintances with Tom Killick whom he worked under at Poole Town and has certainly hit the ground running.

“Obviously it was nice to grab a couple of goals on Saturday and contribute towards the three points against opponents who have started to find some form,” Fletcher told us. “It was an important win and every one of the lads put in a massive shift to play their part in it.

“We have played well in my first few games and this was a deserved victory. I feel as though I have settled into things quickly here; it’s always daunting coming into a new club, but the boys have made me feel welcome and it always helps when you know a few of them already.

“It’s also a manager that I have played under before, so I know what he demands and expects from his players.

“The standard of this League is always very high; every team has really strong and experienced players in their side and you have to graft for each and every point, which is why the table is always pretty tight.

“Hopefully we can gain some momentum from Saturday’s win now and put a nice run together during what is a busy time coming up, which I am really looking forward to.

“As a striker I want to score as many as I can and it’s a big help that I have got off the mark straight away. You can’t beat the feeling of scoring goals and I want to help this club challenge at the right end of the table during the second half of the season.

“We’re a young team with a lot of potential and if we keep playing the way we are; we’ll find ourselves moving in the right direction.”

As a former Hamworthy United player who played a part in their success story, Fletcher admits that he was shocked when they announced their decision to pull out of the Pitching In Southern League earlier in the season.

“It was a bit of a shock when I found out the news,” he added. “It was a club that I really enjoyed playing for and they helped me improve massively, which I am very grateful for.
“Hopefully they can rise up the levels again, they provided the springboard for me to move up to a higher level where I am involved in another great club who I am determined to do well for.”

The Magpies return to home action at the weekend as they play host to Walton & Hersham.
