Christmas came two days early for Michael Simpson when he got his name on the scoresheet for the first time in just over two years in Biggleswade’s 3-1 victory at Kempston Rovers in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central on Saturday.
“I was so pleased to get the goal, especially after the Gaffer has been giving me some stick recently about my scoring record,” Simpson told us with a satisfied smile. “We weren’t at our best on the day, but it was nice to get another win and continue our good form.
“We’ve put in a proper shift as a team over the past couple of months, even with a few injuries, we've managed to build some momentum.
“I feel that I have been performing pretty well since getting back to fitness from injury last season and hopefully I can continue to build on this and add a few more goals to my tally too.
“This is a tough division; everyone is capable of beating each other. The play-offs are within reach but there are a lot of good teams mixing it up there.
“Boxing Day will be a good gauge for us as we host the League leaders, Bedford Town, and we have every reason is go into the New Year with confidence and belief.”
After hosting Bedford Town on Boxing Day, they go to Stotfold on New Year’s Day.
