Winning start to New Year for high-flyers

Having enjoyed a highly successful 2023, Cribbs started the New Year on a winning note to maintain their challenge at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

They have lost just two of their of their opening 17 League games in what is their first-ever taste of life at Step 4, to sit level on points with leaders, Wimborne Town, having played one game less.

New Year’s Day saw them battle to overcome the challenge of Malvern Town in a hard-fought 2-1 win, their 11th success of the season so far.

“They were really testing conditions out there,” admitted manager, Richard Luffman. “For the first half-an-hour or so we were excellent and should have been out of sight.

“But Malvern are a good side and made life tough for us. We also conceded another late goal, which is a habit that we need to get out of and we’re looking in to why this is happening.

“In the end it was a deserved three points; it was a good result at the end of what has been a busy period.

“There is plenty to look forward to and hopefully we can keep our run going to stay in and around the play-off places.”

Ahead of the game, Southern League Vice Chairman, David Martin, was on hand to present Cribbs’ Chairman, Dave Nelson, with their PST Sport Southern League Division One South Club of the Month award for November 2023.

ABOUT THE PST SPORT CLUB OF THE MONTH AWARDS
In each division, the club with the best average points per game is declared the winner. Clubs must have played a minimum of three games during the month in either a league, League Cup, FA Cup or FA Trophy match to be considered.

Should more than one club have the same best average points per game, then the winner shall be declared as the club with the best goal difference (in League matches) and if that is equal the club scoring the most goals.
