Key relationship for Premier South club

Having officially taken over physio duties from Charlie Kirby, who is taking a few months out to travel the world, Jake Travis has been quick to praise the link that Sholing FC have developed with Solent University Southampton.

“The relationship that the club has with Solent University is extremely important,” said Travis. “Being a part-time club, we rely upon the lads to do gym work in their own time, so to have facilities like this that we are able to take advantage of is a massive bonus for us.

“It means that we can give the players their programmes to follow and recovery plans and we know that they have access to first-class equipment.

“It’s vital for us to have this, particularly at this time of year with the poor weather, and we are so grateful to the University for working with us in this way. As I say, it’s an important link for us.”

For Travis it is a return to football having taken so time out following his departure from Havant & Waterlooville.

“I didn’t think that I had missed it,” he added. “But then as soon as I got my boots on and started working with players again, I realised that I had been naïve in thinking that way.”

Sholing enjoyed a commanding 5-1 victory over Winchester City on Saturday as they sit in the middle of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table. Next up they play host to Isuzu FA Trophy heroes, Hendon, on Saturday.
