KEMPSTON ROVERS | TIME TO SHINE

Walnuts looking for a spark

Last weekend saw Kempston Rovers, Thame United and Hadley all score four goals on their way to victories in the lower reaches of the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central table.

All three clubs will be hoping that it will be the spark that they need to get on a positive run of results to pull them away from danger.

For Kempston, it was only their third success of the season but with games in hand over the teams in and around them, they are hopeful that they can build some momentum from what is a busy run of fixtures ahead.

“I’ve got a points total in mind that I believe will keep us up,” admitted manager, Richard Keil. “I am confident that on our day we can not only compete against but also beat any team in this League.

“We’ve got a lot of matches to be played in a short period of time and we’ll be coming up against many of the teams around us, so it gives us an opportunity to start adding to our points tally.

“On Saturday against Ware we did what we’ve done all season by competing well during the first half but then gifting our opponents a couple of soft goals.

“I couldn’t believe that we went in at half-time two goals down and I told the lads a few home truths during the interval.

“Fair play to them because there was a reaction and within ten minutes of the restart we had got ourselves back on level terms before going on to deservedly win the game 4-2, but I shouldn’t have to keep telling them to get a reaction.

“It was nice to give the fans something to celebrate and for us to be able to take a winning result into three away games in a row.”

A trip to leaders, North Leigh, awaits on Saturday and that is followed by key games at Aylesbury United on Tuesday and Thame United the following weekend.
