The temperatures may have dipped below freezing, but the action on the pitch was hot for Tavistock on Wednesday evening as they beat Pitching In Southern League Division One South high-flyers, Frome Town, by six goals to two.
Four of the six goals were scored by emerging front-runner, Dylan Jones, who is on loan from Premier South outfit, Plymouth Parkway, where he has emerged through the ranks.
“I am buzzing to get four goals,” said the youngster who signed his first contract at Parkway recently. “But after our run of defeats, the most important thing was that we were able to get back into winning ways and secure the three points.
“We defended well, worked as a unit and for us to score six goals against opponents who are level on points at the top of the table was fantastic.
“The plan was for me to sit on the shoulder of the last man and then just clip it in for me to run on to and it worked well.
“The conditions were difficult out there; it was certainly a cold one, but I actually think I benefitted from the way in which the ball skidded off the frosty surface.
“To be here on loan getting regular minutes into my legs at a good level is great for me. It’s about taking the opportunities as they come and the goals have done my confidence the power of good.
“That said, you’re only as good as your last game and I know that I have to take this form into the next one now.
“The lads are full of belief after this win and we can’t wait to get back out there.”
Tavistock have no game at the weekend so they have to wait until Tuesday when they host Malvern Town.
