PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Plenty of drama

There were four games postponed in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, one of which included leaders, Chesham United.

It meant that second place Salisbury were able to cut the gap but only by a point as they were held to a goalless draw at Beaconsfield Town.

Goals were in plentiful supply elsewhere though as Hungerford Town dropped out of the play-off places following a 6-2 defeat at Plymouth Parkway. Jack Crago set the home side on their way and then two goals in quick succession on the stroke of half-time from Callum Hall and Reece Thomson put them in control.

Ellis Watts pulled a goal back on the hour but moments later Crago added his second. Soon afterwards Adulai Sambu pulled a further goal back before Ryan Lane and another goal from Hall completed the scoring.

Another side within the leading pack who succumbed in a high-scoring affair was Gosport Borough who lost 4-3 in a dramatic encounter at Bracknell Town. Adam Richards scored the only goal of the first half to give the home side the lead before Jordan Esprit added a second early in the second period.

The visitors then hit back with Alexandr Barsa and Brad Tarbuck drawing things level before Gerson Da Costa Ramos put them ahead with just over ten minutes to go. However, Esprit equalised in stoppage time before Haydon Vaughan notched the winner for the hosts with virtually the last kick.

A second half seven-minute hat-trick from Olaf Koszela saw Dorchester Town beat Merthyr Town 3-2. Thomas Handley put the visitors ahead in the first half before the hosts levelled just before the hour-mark. Alex John then regained the lead for the Welsh outfit only for Koszela to score two more in quick succession soon afterwards.

It was also 3-2 at Basingstoke Town as they won again with Tiverton Town their victims. Jevan Wright out the visitors ahead only for Liam Ferdinand to score twice and Brad Wilson to grab the other before River Allen completed the scoring right at the death.

Moving into the play-off places were AFC Totton who had an Ethan Taylor goal to thank for victory over Harrow Borough, whilst Walton & Hersham overcome the challenge of Winchester City with Nana Owusu, Johl Powell and Stan Flaherty on the mark as Pat Nolan hit a late consolation for the visitors.
