As clubs throughout the Pitching In Southern League Premier South showed their respects to Southern League Chairman, Anthony Hughes, who passed away earlier this week, leaders Chesham United continued their march with a 3-0 victory over Walton & Hersham.
An early goal from Lewis Rolfe set them on their way before Zak Joseph doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time. Ricardo German got his name on the scoresheet during the second period to complete the scoring.
Second-place Salisbury won by the same scoreline against Sholing and they too had an early goal to set them up for the win with Jamar Smith putting them ahead. Noah Coppin added a second just before the half-hour mark before Charlie Gunson notched the third in first half stoppage time.
It was an emotional afternoon at Merthyr Town where the home club did Anthony Hughes proud with a commanding 4-0 triumph over Didcot Town as Ricardo Rees notched a hat-trick and Tom Handley hit the other goal.
Our Star Game ended all square as AFC Totton and Gosport Borough played out a 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of 1,353. Dan Wooden put the visitors ahead during the opening period before Sam Magri levelled matters just before the hour-mark and that’s how it remained.
There was drama at Hungerford Town as they left it late to beat Swindon Supermarine. The visitors went ahead through David Sims-Burgess and it was a lead that they held until early in the second period when leading scorer, Conor McDonagh, equalised. Levi Irving put the visitors back in front with 20 minutes to go and it was a lead that they held until the final minute when Elis Watts restored parity before Fabio Verissimo Lopes nicked it at the death for the hosts.
An explosive start from Tiverton Town saw them race into a two-goal lead against Poole Town within the opening ten minutes as Jack Rice-Lethaby and new signing, Joe Parker, found the net. Jevan Wright added another on the half-hour mark before Parker bagged his second early in the second half. The visitors pulled two late goals back through Harvey Slade and an own goal, but it was too little, too late.
Another side who came out of the blocks with real purpose was Beaconsfield Town as Jacques Kpohomouh, Asher Yearwood and Jake Gosling put them three goals up within the opening 25 minutes against Bracknell Town.
Winchester City had a welcome return to winning ways as goals from Jamie Barron and Trevor Caborn in each half gave them a 2-0 triumph at Basingstoke Town.
The other games all finished with honours even as Harrow Borough pulled themselves off the bottom of the table with a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers, Hayes & Yeading United. A first half goal from Ayo Faniyan put the visitors ahead only for Reece Cameron to cancel it out on the hour.
Hanwell Town let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Hendon. Jacob Bancroft and a Sam Evans penalty put the Geordies, who were being cheered on by around 80 Newcastle United fans ahead of their evening Emirates FA Cup tie at Fulham, in the driving seat only for Finlay MacNab and Joe White to level the scores.
Finally, it was goalless between Dorchester Town and Plymouth Parkway.
