As clubs throughout the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central showed their respects to Southern League Chairman, Anthony Hughes, who passed away earlier this week, leaders Redditch United got the job done at Long Eaton United.
They had to wait until just over 20 minutes from the end to get ahead as Alex Cameron found the net before Reece Flanagan sealed the win right at the death.
Patience was also required at Mickleover as the home side came from behind to beat Barwell 2-1. It was the visitors who took the lead through George Nunn on 11 minutes and the hosts had to wait until the final quarter-of-an-hour to level through Jake Bennett before new arrival, Tyrell Waite, turned the scoreline on its head shortly afterwards.
Our Star Game lived up to its billing as St. Ives Town forged ahead against Needham Market through Theo Alexandrou. The scores were level ten minutes later as Kyle Hammond equalised before the hosts regained the lead through Jordan Williams on 64 minutes. The visitors once more hit back within ten minutes through Jamie McGrath before Alexandrou popped up with the winner for the home side in what was an entertaining encounter.
There was drama at AFC Telford United where the home side came from behind to beat Stourbridge courtesy of two late goals. It was Alex Prosser who put the visitors ahead on the hour-mark only for Orrin Pendley to level with just over ten minutes to go. The winner came with four minutes left on the clock as Ricardo Dinanga fired home from distance.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Leamington as they had to settle for a share of the spoils in their home clash with Alvechurch. Will Shorrock gave them an early lead but it was cancelled out by Dylan Allen-Hadley.
A crowd of 1,421 saw Halesowen Town beat neighbours, Bromsgrove Sporting 2-1. A Kieren Donnelly brace put them two goals up at the break and whilst Luke Rowe pulled a goal back early in the second period, that is how the scoring remained.
Stamford kept in touch with the teams in the play-off places as they came from behind to beat Coalville Town 3-1. Wes York put the visitors in front but within a couple of minutes, Jack Duffy had restored parity. Then, within two minutes of that, James Blunden put the home side ahead. The visitors’ day was made worse as goalkeeper, Paul White was sent off as Duffy grabbed his second goal after the break.
In the lower reaches of the table, Berkhamsted fell to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Royston Town, for whom Adam Murray, Dequane Wilson-Braithwaite and Fabio Virciglio found the net, whilst AFC Sudbury lost out at Leiston where George Quantrell put the hosts ahead in the opening exchanges only for Romario Dunne to level. What proved to be the winner came right at the start of the second period through Seb Dunbar.
Meanwhile, Kettering Town picked themselves up an important away win at Hitchin Town as Dan Jarvis’ goal in the first half proved to be the difference between the two sides.
