The result of the day in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central came at Hillgrounds Road where bottom of the table, Kempston Rovers, came from behind to beat leaders, Bedford Town 2-1.
“This was a great advert for football at this level,” said a delighted Rovers’ manager, Richard Keil at the end. “It was a ding-dong game played in front of a packed house with plenty of entertainment.
“I have said so many times that we can compete against any team in this League and not only have we competed here, we’ve beaten the best team in this League and have three points in our pocket.
“The first half we had to defend the hill, but we managed to stay in the game and nicked a goal with one of only a few touches we had in their half.
“I felt that we were the better team in the second half; we had a red card and they had two sent off as they started to lose their shape and discipline.
“We saw a lot more of the ball after the break and were much more effective. You’ve got to celebrate days like these and use the result as momentum to win other games.
“We’ve stuck to our principles this season and will continue to do so. Hopefully we will be able to get our rewards from this approach.”
Another tricky encounter awaits on Tuesday evening as they travel to Biggleswade Town.
