It’s always nice to see a goal scored direct from a corner kick; it doesn’t happen all that often but for it to occur twice in the same game for the same player is quite a feat.
That was the case at the weekend for Royston Town in their impressive 4-1 victory over Mickleover as Joshua Coldicott-Stevens bagged a brace from two corners.
“I am proud of my achievement,” he told us. “I’m not sure how many players can say they’ve scored from two corners throughout their whole career, let alone the same game!
“I still can’t really believe it happened, to be honest, I’d never scored from a corner before, so it was certainly a first for me!
“Most importantly, though, it was a resounding victory over a top side and the result gives us a real boost.
“The hope is that we can build on this now with a run of form that will allow us to push for a place in the play-offs.
“It’s going to be tough as we have a few points to catch up on with those teams currently occupying the play-off places, but it’s still possible with plenty of football still to be played and a lot of points up for grabs.
“The season has been a bit of a roller-coaster; this is a relatively new group of lads and it took us a while to gel together properly.
“We started slowly and then picked up some big wins before suffering a big blip. We recovered to get on a run of seven games without defeat, of which we won six to lead us to where we are in the table.
“The team has really started to come together on and off the pitch as the season has gone on and having such supportive fans behind us has also been a massive help.
“On a personal level, I am relatively happy with how things are going. I’ve already scored five more goals than last season and picked up a few more assists too, so things are going in the right direction for me.
“I’ve played in every game other than the away trip to Mickleover, so that has been a big positive. There are always aspects to be improved upon, but I am working hard and making sure that the Gaffer continues to pick me.
“It’s a cliché, but the aim between now and the end of the season is just to pick up as many points as we can and see where it takes us.
“The Gaffer has set various targets and if we can achieve them, it will give us every chance of having a positive end to the season.”
It’s an away trip to Halesowen Town for the Crows this weekend.
