They say that beauty is in the eye of beholder and despite referring to the game as ‘dirty, horrible and ugly’, AFC Totton manager, Jimmy Ball, was a happy man following Saturday’s hard-earned 1-0 success at Didcot Town.
It was a result that strengthened his side’s position within the play-off places in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table and leaves them with just five defeats from 30 League games since promotion at the end of last term.
“It was a tough game for us,” Ball told his club’s media. “For that you have to give credit to our opponents who are fighting for their lives.
“The conditions were difficult and it was a case of coming here and finding a way to win, which is exactly what we did.
“Sometimes that’s what it’s all about; it has to be dirty, horrible and ugly at times and this was one of those occasions.
“I am delighted that we were able to emerge with the three points because that’s what it’s all about at this stage of the season.
“Our hosts were hard to break down and really well-organised, but we got there in the end and we can take a lot from the performance as a group as we move forward.
“It’s can’t look beautiful and pretty every week, unfortunately.”
The Hampshire outfit head to Tiverton Town at the weekend.
