Melksham Town finally tasted victory in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South at the weekend after seven games without a win.
Their 1-0 triumph over Bishops Cleeve came in dramatic fashion as local lad, Elliot Heffenden, came off the substitutes’ bench to grab the winner with just a couple of minutes to go on his debut.
“Elliot has done well for the reserves and scored a lot of goals,” said manager, Mark Collier. “He fully deserved his chance and it was great to see him come on and get the winning goal.
“I’d describe him as unorthodox; he got himself in there inside the six-yard box and was able to turn the ball home. There will be prettier goals, but this one meant so much to us.
“It was a fantastic and much-needed result. We won’t be getting too carried away, but there were some big performances out there.
“It’s been a tough period for us, but we’re getting lads back from injury now and hopefully we can build upon this result.”
This Saturday sees them head to Exmouth Town.
