HERTFORD TOWN | MAKING A POINT

Springing into life

Having enjoyed a productive February which led to them winning the PST Sport Club of the Month award for the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, Hertford Town have made a stuttering start to March.

They managed to halt a run of two successive defeats at the weekend by sharing the spoils with Aylesbury United in a 2-2 home draw.

It’s a result that leaves them just three points off the play-off places with eight games to go.

“A former manager of mine once said that you should never underestimate the value of a point,” player-manager, Ben Herd, told his club’s media after seeing his side concede a late equaliser. “It’s another point towards our total, but the reality is that it’s two points dropped.

“This is a topsy-turvy division with everyone capable of taking points off each other. All we can do is take care of our own results and performances and see where it takes us.

“We know that there are aspects of our game that need to be much better than they were on this occasion; it shouldn’t take us going behind for us to have more urgency and vibrancy about our play.

“We’ve showed what we are capable of during February; we’re still very much in the race for the play-offs and need our character and killer instincts to come to the fore if we are to return to the form of a few weeks ago.”

Pictured we see Herd receiving the PST Sport Club of the Month award for February from Southern League Acting Chairman, David Martin, with Hertford Town Chairman, Colin Hay, also looking on.

Saturday sees them on the road with a game at Hadley.
