Bashley FC Chairman, Paul Lucas, has announced that he will be stepping down from his role at the end of the season.
It’s been quite a journey for the club in recent seasons as they have established themselves in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South following promotion from the Wessex League as runners-up at the end of the 2021/22 season.
In fact, last season the club just missed out on securing a place in the play-offs.
“My decision has been made due to a number of factors, including personal matters and an acknowledgement of my consequent inability to give the time need to the club,” said Mr. Lucas. “From the first time of chatting to the club’s vice-chairman, Iain Roberts in 2019, to my first steps as the major sponsor in the dark days of Covid in 2020 - and lastly dear Mike Cranidge’s arm-twisting to become Chairman in early 2021, it has been an amazing journey!
“It would take about ten pages to thank everyone individually who has supported me during this time, but special thanks go to my fellow executives, the amazing volunteers and committee members plus all of the staff and players over the past four or five years, my fantastic family and, of course, the best fans in the game!
“People may not have always agreed with my decisions over this time, but they have always been made with the best interests of the club in mind.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to meet and greet so many good people from our opponents both in the Wessex League and Southern League. We also share the same desire to keep our grassroots game available to supporters and are a credit to the game.
“My interest in the club and support will always be strong and a lot of hard work is going on behind-the-scenes to ensure continuity into next season and beyond.”
The club is now actively seeking someone to ensure that they remain on the upward path. Saturday’s victory over Mousehole has put them 11 points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s visit to Willand Rovers.
