NEWS | THE ANTHONY HUGHES TROPHY

England C fall to narrow defeat at the hands of Wales

The England C team returned to action on Tuesday evening as they took on their Wales counterparts.

The game was played in heavy rain at Llanelli Town and ended in a hard-fought 1-0 win for the Welsh, who had their goalkeeper to thank for a fantastic save in stoppage time at the end to secure the victory.

The two teams were battling it out for the Anthony Hughes Trophy, in memory of the beloved Southern League Chairman who sadly passed away at the turn of this year.

Anthony’s connection to both Welsh and English football through his lifelong support of Merthyr Town and representing the Southern League as our FA Representative means that he commands so much respect both sides of the border.

The trophy was presented to the winning captain by Anthony’s widow, Debbie Hughes.
