With the end of the season now in sight, each new game becomes bigger than the last for teams throughout our four divisions.
One of the mouth-watering encounters in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South pits play-off hopefuls Merthyr Town against Walton & Hersham.
The home side currently occupy the last play-off spot but Walton & Hersham are only a point behind and breathing down their necks.
“It’s certainly developing into an exciting run-in,” admitted Alex Kelly, one of the in-form members of the Swans’ team. “There are some huge games coming up across the board, but I am confident that we can get the job done.
“There are always unexpected results which crop up at this stage of the season, especially in this League, and I can see plenty of twists and turns still to come over the weeks ahead.
“All we can do is concentrate on picking up points and then worry what other teams have done afterwards.
“Last weekend against Didcot Town, we weren’t at our best as a team, we know that, but we managed to get the three points and that’s all that matters. Our opponents were down there fighting for their lives and they made it a real challenge.
“Saturday will see two teams with their sights on the play-offs battling it out; a win for us and we go above them.
“But it will be tough; it’s a difficult place to go to. There’s a good standard throughout this League, everyone is capable of beating each other on their day.
“We know that we will have to be better than we were last time out and I am sure we will be.”
Kelly has been in good form recently having overcome the injury problems which blighted him earlier in the season.
“It’s been a generally frustrating season having missed a large part of it earlier on through injury,” he added. “But I am feeling almost back to my best now and that has been reflected in my recent performances.
“Hopefully I can kick-on for this final run of games and help us end the season on a positive note.
“As a group we’ve faced a lot of challenges over the course of the season, so it’s credit to everyone that we’re sat here pushing for the play-offs going into the final month.
“To be fighting for another promotion is something to be proud of and whatever happens over these next few weeks, we can take the positives from that.”
