A run of just one defeat from their last six games has thrust Larkhall Athletic right into the middle of a battle to make the play-offs in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.
There are two of the four places still up for grabs with a whole host of clubs still in the running, including The Larks who beat Mousehole 1-0 at the weekend courtesy of Archie Ferris’ third goal in the last two games.
“Being in and around the play-offs is great, having something to play for at the end of the season,” Ferris told us. “We’re punching above our weight just being in and around it against some bigger clubs, but we’ll just keep turning up and enjoying every game we play with no pressure and try to give our fans something to enjoy.
“We’ve had a really good month or so, picking up some good points, particularly from tough away trips to the likes of Tavistock and Bashley.
“The fact that we’re such a close-knit group has really helped; we just enjoy being in each other’s company and playing together each week.
“To be fair, the Gaffer and the club have created a good environment, which is nice to be around and it has served us well.
“I’ve been happy with my own form. I just try to work as hard as I can for the boys; as a striker it is easy to set personal targets and then be selfish with them. All that matters to me is that we’re getting three points and everyone has done their job.
“I was with Clevedon Town for seven years and moving to Larkhall was my first change in men’s football and also a step up in level, so I was worried about how I would cope with the added demands, but I feel that I have slotted in well here; it’s very similar to my previous club in that there’s a real family feel around the place and that has helped me do well and get amongst the goals.
“It’s enjoyable testing ourselves against some of the big hitters in this League. There are also a number of local derbies which also adds that extra spice and bigger crowds.
“We’ve got five games to go and whilst it’s a busy schedule over these next few weeks, hopefully our momentum can continue and it will lead us into one of those available play-off places.”
On Wednesday they host Yate Town, another club with eyes on the play-offs, before heading to Paulton Rovers on Saturday. Successive home games against Frome Town and Bideford AFC follow before they end the regular season at Cribbs.
