WELWYN GARDEN CITY | NO REST FOR THE WICKED

Busy schedule for in-form Citizens

Welwyn Garden City are timing their run of good form just right.

Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Hadley moved them to within two points of the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central play-off places, with games in hand on all of the teams above them.

They have now won three games in a row, but there is no time to pat themselves on the back as they return to action on Thursday, just 48 hours after their last outing, with current leaders, Biggleswade Town, heading to The Pexhurst Stadium.

“There is a lot of confidence amongst the lads at the moment,” front-man, Lynton Goss told us. “We’re going into every game believing that we can win.

“This kind of schedule is tough on the old legs, but it certainly helps when you are winning! We’ve just got on with our job, no moaning or complaining, and giving 100% every time that we step out on the pitch.

“Our run has certainly come at a good time. We’re not really looking at the table, we’re just getting through this backlog of fixtures and doing our best to accumulate as many points as possible.

“There are so many teams in and around it, you never know what can happen in this League, it’s crazy!

“It’s been a funny season for me personally as I have played for three different teams in this League, starting with North Leigh, then moving on to Bedford Town and finally Welwyn Garden City, so I’ve certainly seen things from different perspectives!

“My focus right now is on ensuring that we finish strongly. After the start that Welwyn made to the season, no-one expected them to be up there challenging, so it would be nice to play my part in proving people wrong.

“Winning the League would be great but so too would be getting into the play-offs, so it’s all still very much to play for and we are looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

Having took on Biggleswade Town, it’s a road trip to Stotfold on Saturday before heading to Bedford Town on the following Tuesday. A final home League game of the season sees them welcome Aylesbury United before ending the regular season at Cirencester Town.
