PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

All of the drama

In the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, Chesham United got their hands on the championship trophy at their final home game of the season.

But it was visitors, Bracknell Town, who went home celebrating as a stoppage time winner in a 2-1 success moved them into the play-off places. Great Evans lived up to his name by putting the visitors ahead early in the second period only for Jordan Edwards to restore parity. That was until Jordan Esprit popped up with a 92nd minute winner.

It moves them into the top five at the expense of Merthyr Town who lost 2-0 at AFC Totton, where an Ethan Taylor brace gave them the victory and kept their hopes of a second-place finish very much alive.

They face competition from Salisbury, who current sit second, after they won 2-0 at Hayes & Yeading United thanks to a double from Noah Coppin, who bagged a goal in each half. Also in the running for second is Gosport Borough, who were held to a goalless draw at Hendon.

The battle at the bottom sees Plymouth Parkway hoping that their games in hand will get them out of trouble. They mustered plenty of determination to recover from two goals down with just eight minutes to go to draw 2-2 at home to Walton & Hersham. Josh Tobin put the visitors ahead as half-time approached and then Johl Powell doubled their advantage just past the hour. Callum Hall and Dylan Jones salvaged a point late on.

With Hayes & Yeading United falling back into the relegation places following their home defeat, Hanwell Town were able to battle out a 1-0 triumph over Hungerford Town, for their second win in as many days, thanks to Jenson Wright’s winner early in the second period, whilst Tiverton Town left it until deep into stoppage time to win at Harrow Borough.

It was Excellence Muhemba who put the hosts ahead on the half-hour mark before Jevan Wright levelled matters on 57 minutes and then Dylan Jones weighed in with what could prove to be a vital goal to clinch all three points. Sholing also had a good win, beating Swindon Supermarine 3-0 thanks to goals from Charlie Davis, Dan Mason and Lee Wort.

Also still haunted by the prospect of relegation are Beaconsfield Town who went down to a single-goal defeat at Winchester City, where Oliver Balmer got the all-important goal on the hour-mark.

In-form Dorchester Town had their wings clipped at Basingstoke Town, where the home side ran out 3-1 winners. Liam Ferdinand put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time but it was cancelled out by Ieuan Turner with an hour played. Just three minutes later, Brad Wilson had the hosts back ahead and then Paul Hodges rounded things off late on.

Already-relegated Didcot Town lost 2-0 at Poole Town, for whom Harvey Slade and Kyran Samadi were on target in each half.
