BRACKNELL TOWN | THAT'S ESPRIT

Big goal from popular front-runner

Bracknell Town moved into the Pitching In Southern League Premier South play-off places in dramatic fashion at the weekend.

A stoppage time goal from Jordan Esprit saw them claim a 2-1 victory at Champions, Chesham United to move into fifth place with just one game to go.

“It was hard work,” said Esprit without hesitation. “As everyone knows, Chesham are a good side and they had a lot of home support behind them, so we were always up against it.

“It’s always nice to score last minute winners, but because of the situation, this one was extra special!

“I am just happy to be able to make a contribution and do what I can for the team. There’s one game of the regular season left to play and we just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing to get us into this position.

“We won’t be able to control what is happening at Merthyr, but what we can control is our own performance and making sure that we get the job done because it’s in our own hands now.

“It’s been a funny season. We have suffered from a lack of consistency at times, the boys will back me on that, but one thing about this team is that we never give up.

“We have an experienced and talented changing room, which helps massively. The Gaffer and his coaching staff believe in us and that energy feeds through.

“Personally, I had seven weeks out earlier in the season, which was frustrating, but other than that the season has gone well, I am always learning and enjoying my football.

“The standard of the League has been good this year. There are some strong teams who are good at what they do, so if we can finish in that top five it will be a real achievement.

“Our focus is firmly fixed on doing what we have to do this weekend.”

A home encounter with a Hayes & Yeading United outfit who are battling to avoid the drop awaits, whilst over at Merthyr Town, they host Harrow Borough.
