PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | MIDWEEK REVIEW

All of the action during the week so far

This week’s action in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South has been dominated by Plymouth Parkway.

On Monday they fell at home to AFC Totton whose commanding 3-0 success moved them up into second place as Juan Luque Prados, Leon Maloney and an own goal from Callum Rose saw them continue their good form.

48 hours later and the Devon outfit were back in action, this time beating Hayes & Yeading United 3-1 to move out of the relegation zone and leave their opponents in real trouble going into the final weekend. It was the visitors who drew first blood through Marvel Ekpiteta but Dylan Jones levelled matters soon afterwards. After the break, Matt Wright and Reece Thomson got the goals to secure a big win.

It leaves a situation where they are five teams, Hayes & Yeading United, Swindon Supermarine, Beaconsfield Town, Plymouth Parkway and Hanwell Town, battling it out to avoid the two remaining relegation places on Saturday.

There was drama in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South as Wimborne Town missed the chance to clinch the title as they went down to a 3-2 reverse at Tavistock.

All was looking good when Jack Lovell fired them ahead on the quarter-hour mark but it was cancelled out by Jack Endacott before Alfie Cunningham put the hosts ahead with less than 20 minutes to go. Harry Baker brought the sides back level in the final minute, however, deep into stoppage time, Ed Harrison popped up with the winning goal.

The result leaves Wimborne two points clear at the top from Frome Town going into the weekend.

Down in Cornwall, there was a fourth win in a row for Mousehole as they came from behind to beat Exmouth Town 4-1 and in doing so, move into the play-off zone. Aarron Denny put the away team ahead just past the half-hour mark and they held it until early in the second half when Tallan Mitchell equalised.

It stimulated an impressive second half showing for the hosts as Hayden Turner and Tim Nixon grabbed quickfire goals before Brandon Pursall rounded the scoring off late on.

Larkhall Athletic had to be patient on Wednesday evening as it took until the 80th minute to see off the challenge of Westbury United with Dawid Regula’s goal which leaves his side sitting in one of the play-off places.

There are two play-off spots still up for grabs and three teams vying for them, Larkhall Athletic, Mousehole and Bristol Manor Farm, who play their game in hand with a trip to Tavistock on Thursday evening.

Over in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, Hadley were 2-0 victors at North Leigh on Tuesday thanks to second half goals from Jordan Edwards and Isaac Stones.

Wednesday evening saw Hertford Town recover from falling behind at Biggleswade FC with just two minutes on the clock to battle out a 2-1 triumph. It was Lawrence Marsh who opened the scoring for the hosts before a goal either side of the interval by Lanrewaju Balogun turned the scoreline on its head.

All four of the teams in action find themselves in the middle section of the table.
